Mount Saviour Monastery
October 2023
News:
On the 1st we switched from summer to winter hymns as we do every year
on the first Sunday in October.
The 2023 Chronicle was picked up at the printers on the 3rd. For the
next several days stuffing them into envelopes to mail out became a common
work for those available.
We celebrated with Brother Bruno his name's day on the 6th with a special
evening recreation. Michael, our next monastic candidate expected to enter,
visited us again over the weekend. A group of seminarians from Saint Mark
in Erie, PA, were also here on retreat.
On the 8th, Brothers John and Isaiah hit the road and the skies to travel
to Subiaco, Italy, for our Provincial Chapter Meeting. Subiaco is where
Saint Benedict began his monastic journey as a hermit in a cave for three
years. First they were able to work around a bus strike then a taxi strike
in Rome, but were delayed a day returning due to an air traffic controller's
strike in France.
Brother Mark underwent surgery on his foot on the 12th and was released
from the hospital on the 17th. His foot remains bound however. He will
be convalescing in our infirmary and using various means of support for
several weeks before he can get back on his feet.
The Oblates had their yearly group retreat here the weekend of the 13th.
Their group photo was taken on the occasion of the renewal of their vows.
Our second name's day celebration of the month was for Brother Luke
on the 18th. Our first frost of the season materialized the next morning.
On the 28th Brother Savio was ordained a priest in Vietnam. Our monastery
sponsored Brother Savio who is a Cistercian monk for several years as he
lived among us. This link will allow you to view the ceremony. His parents
are shown sitting as the link opens. https://www.youtube.com/watch'v=mt3ZOLwP7Fc
