Mount Saviour Monastery
May 2023
News:
The community and guests were blessed to have Bishop Joseph Bambera
from our neighboring diocese of Scranton on retreat with us for several
days. On the 6th he was the celebrant for Mass.
The next
day the annual Damasus Memorial Lecture Series talk was presented in our
chapel by Sister Kathleen Hughes RSCJ. Her talk on the Eucharist was extremely
well received. Many of her sisters have been guests of the monastery through
the years.
That Sunday night we had no guests for our usual weekly buffet supper.
The community decided to eat in our small refectory for what was our first
talking supper since the beginning of the pandemic.
The 9th was a busy pen session day with the sheep. They all received
inoculations and other post birthing care. Our total this year was 161
births from 93 mothers.
On the 19th a group of deacons about to be ordained arrived from the
Archdiocese of New York for their pre-ordination retreat. Their retreat
lasted until the 24th. Please remember them and their diaconal ministry
in prayer.
On the 26th we woke up to yet another late season frosty morning.
All went exceedingly well with this year's sheep shearing on the 27th.
Two shearers completed the task of shearing 121 ewes by early afternoon
under sunny skies with temperatures in the 60's. All the newborn lambs
also received vaccinations. The last ewe sheared was done the old fashion
way with hand shearers instead of electric clippers.
The next day, the feast of Pentecost, the community and congregation resumed
singing a recessional at the end of Mass. That's the first time since COVID-19
put the kibosh on singing in the chapel. Trappist jams and jellies have
also reappeared in our Gift Shop now that more guests are visiting us once
again.
COMING EVENTS:
August 13 Dedication Day. Mass will be at 10:00 am.
