Mount Saviour Monastery
March 2004
News:
At the monastery, we celebrate
the patron saint of each monk. Birthdays
are rarely noticed but we had a quiet celebration for the 80th birthday
of Fr. Martin. On the 10th of March, he drove to New York City for
the Oblate Meeting.
Many solemnities occurred this month: St. Joseph
( statue from the Mount Saviour collection), St. Benedict
and the Annunciation .
The community sang Vespers and Compline at Grace Episcopal Church
in Elmira on March 21st. Fr. Martin offered some
reflections
after a Biblical reading. This annual custom, on the 4th Sunday
of Lent, allows us to share our faith and a meal with the congregation.
Our guests may remember our big white dog, Bella, who
used to bark at night to keep predators away. She died of old age.
We apologize for her disturbing behavior; the donkeys who are
taking over her duties are not so noisy.
