Mount Saviour Monastery
June 2017
News:
It was a busy, celebratory month, full of feast days, solemnities,
and birthdays beginning on the 1st when we celebrated Br. Justin’s name
day followed by Pentecost (4th) Corpus Christi (15th) Fr. James’ 90th birthday
(19th) Sacred Heart (23rd) Birth of John the Baptist (24th) Sts. Peter
& Paul (29th) which is Br. Pierre’s name day, finally culminating at
the end of the month on the 30th with a welcoming celebration for Fr. Darr
Schoenhofen who will begin sharing Chaplain duties with Fr. Don Curtiss.
On the Solemnity of Pentecost, somewhat appropriately yet unexpectedly,
it was cool enough after Mass to see our breath (Spirit). A celestial delight
had appeared before Mass; an intense half hour long rainbow and at one
point, full double rainbow. On the 8th the community went en masse to Rochester
for the combined 90th birthday celebration of Fr. James and Br. Stephen
at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. Pictures from the event can be
viewed under Community, Photos Today on our website. Our appearance and
celebration took our brothers by surprise as even the Sisters were astonished
they could keep the planned event a secret. Our newly nonagenarian brothers
were joyful and in great spirits and continue to do well and to be well
cared for.
