Mount Saviour Monastery
February 2016
News:
The winter months can make traveling difficult and guests are less
numerous at the beginning of the year. Nevertheless, some students
from Alfred University spent the last week-end here for a retreat.
During the year, many colleges and universities reserve St. Joseph's guest
house for retreats. They do their own cooking and many bring their
own retreat director. Shrove Tuesday is a free day for the monks
to relax before Lent. Some may go to a special restaurant, others
to an afternoon movie or visit a museum in the area. Some choose
to stay home and enjoy a quiet day. The peace of the monastery can
be disturbed by mechanical failures; an oil pump supplying the furnaces,
failed on a Friday night and our 2 elevators needed major repairs.
Life goes on and we make the proper adjustments to cope with the
situation.
