Mount Saviour Monastery
June 2015
News:
During the first week of June, Fr. Richard Fréchette,
a Passionist priest in Haiti, conducted our annual retreat. We had read
his book during Lent. "As a priest and a physician, Richard Frechette has
known the body, heart, and soul of people in the most anguishing of circumstances.
He has carried out his double ministry over the past twenty-five years
in settings of extreme poverty, violence, social upheaval, and natural
disasters. This personal experience of tough realities has been at once
a descent into chaos and an ascent into compassion, never more so than
in his work in Haiti." from Amazon.com. Fr. Joseph Gabriel
left on June 8th after a three year term as Prior Administrator.
He will spent some time in Buffalo with his aged parents before returning
to Christ in the Desert. The Subiaco-Cassinese Congregation will appoint
an administrator and a local Prior will be chosen by consultative
vote in the middle of August. In the mean time, the Sub-Prior, Br.
Pierre is the interim superior. Our three monks in simple vows,
Br. Justin, Br. Luke and Br. Michael spent 2 weeks at St.
Benedict's Abbey in Atchison KS. With other Junior monks from many
monasteries, they attended lectures from prominent scholars. The
experience of an other monastery and the sharing with other monks are enriching
moments. Fr. Donald Curtis, a retired priest from Rochester who
has been living at the Annex for the past year, will assume the priestly
duties for the community and the guests.
Coming Events:
