Mount Saviour Monastery
March 2014
News:
On March 5th, we began Lent with Ash Wednesday. The community
observed a "Desert Day" on the first Wednesday of the month. After
Mass there is no public prayers until Vespers and the meals for the men
guests and the monks are taken in a buffet style. This free space
of time is intended to allow the monks to pray and reflect according to
personal needs or devotions that are meaningful to their own spiritual
growth. On March 11th, Brs. John and Dominic Savio visited
the John XIII seminary near Boston for interviews in preparation for studies
in the Fall. On March 14th, Fr. James came back from the hospital
with renewed strength. On March 19th, Sr. Joan Riddley, osb
arrived to give us 6 conferences on Eucharistic Adoration. The month
of March is special with 3 solemnities: St. Joseph, St. Benedict and the
Annunciation when we remember Br. Gabriel's feast day. On
March 22nd. Br. Bruno visited his sick brother, Christopher Lane,
who died some days later. On the 4th Sunday of Lent, we have the
custom of singing Vespers and Compline at Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira.
We share a meal with the parishioners and renew our friendship.
