Mount Saviour Monastery
May 2011
News:
Clare Reidy who gave the monks some lessons on public reading,
died on Palm Sunday. She was fond of the arts, especially, the theater.
We are grateful to her many friends who sent donations in her memory.
We began the month with the annual Damasus Winzen Lecture by Fr. John
Colacino, C.PP.S from Rochester, NY. On May 7th, we buried
Br. William Uiting in the presence of two of his nephews and many
friends of the monastery. On May 27th, Br. Anthony Rodriguez returned
to Mexico; the cultural shock was overwhelming for him but he was grateful
for the experience in New York State. Our annual retreat, conducted
by the Rev. Hans Van Den Blink, began on the 25th. with the
theme of acquiring the mind of Christ. The farm was spared from predators
for the first time since the sheep replaced the cows. The only addition
to the 4 donkeys and the llama in the fields was some foil plates and 3
dummy owls. No coyote or eagle came to feast on lambs as in the past.
The annual shearing day brought a large crowd of volunteers and spectators.
Two professional shearers were able to "shave" 155 sheep in 5 hours.
