A
major change occurred after Fr. Martin presented his resignation after
nearly 40 years as Prior. Fr. James Cronen was chosen as Prior
Administrator. The present laws of the Vatican require the
superior of a monastic community to be a priest. Fr. James
entered the noviciate at St-Paul.s Abbey in Newton NJ in 1947 and moved
to Mount Saviour in 1966. His monastic experience will be an
asset to lead our small community and continue the ideal our our
founders. He took office on Father's Day.
Br. John Thompson came back from his studies in
Italy. Before his return, he described his experience:
"The program offers a one of a kind
opportunity to deepen our understanding of the process or formation,
engage in
cross-cultural dialog around formation issues and perspectives, to grow
in our
own monastic formation and to be of service in the continual work of
formation
in our respective communities. I am enjoying the program immensely and
greatly
appreciate the sacrifice that our community is making in providing this
deeply
enriching opportunity."
On June 11th, we received John Mercer as
postulant. On June 17th, Br. Thomas went to Prince of Peace
Abbey, California, to attend a 2 week Juniorate school Two years
ago, we hosted the session offered to Junior monks of Benedictine
communities.
On Saturday, June 28th, Fr. Martin and
Br. John went to Rochester for the ordination of Edison Tayag, a
former student of our Summer Program. He is the second priest for
the diocese of Rochester who spent time here with the Summer Program
