The month of November is a time to remember deceased relatives and
friends. An oblate and architect, Alain Verley was buried in the presence
of most of his children and grandchildren on November 1st. At the end
of the month, we were informed of the death of Fr. Burkhard Neunheuser, monk
of Maria Laach and close friend of Rev. Father Damasus. He spent some
time with us and shared his expertise in liturgy. His enthusiasm for
monastic life and the liturgy was an inspiration for those who got to know
him. On Thanksgiving Day, we received all the guests for the traditional
meal. Our Christmas Chronicle
is available on the web and will be mailed in December.
A Winter Gathering
Mount Saviour Monastery will be the site of the second Emmaus Experience
on January 16-19, 2004. Persons wishing to participate in this retreat,
as well as participants from the Summer '03 Emmaus Experience, are most
welcome. Participants will explore together, in presentations, group
discussions, and in prayer, the Emmaus story as told in Luke 24:13-36.
The gathered community will seek to understand its meaning for them today
and ways in which they can live out the challenge of this Gospel together.
