Mount Saviour Monastery
March 2003
News:
The monastery celebrates Shrove
Tuesday with a movie (comedy) to relax before Lent.. We enjoyed watching
'My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Three groups spent week-ends here
during the month: St. John's University, Rochester Institute of Technology
and Ithaca College. On March 11th, Br. Luke
was hospitalized for the rest of the month due to pains after a fall.
On March 19th, the feast of St. Joseph had a special meaning with
the reception of two new postulants: Joseph Amendola
from Montrose PA and Christopher Kosniuk
from Long Island. For Laetare Sunday,
March 30th, the community sang vespers and compline at Grace
Episcopal Church. This annual outing allows a rich
encounter with our neighbors to share prayer and a meal.
Unplanned Lambing:
Last fall, a young ram jumped the fence , three times, to meet
interesting partners. We witnessed the consequences on March 9th with
the first set of twins. Lambing was due around April 10th. By
the end of March, 70 ewes had given birth to 138 healthy lambs. Needless
to say that the regular lambing season will be lighter than in the past.
