News:
    The parking lot has a new look with the disappearance of a row of spruce trees that were aging.  We can see better the special architecture of the buildings.  A small hedge row will be placed in front of the cars to improve the landscape.
    Our Chronicle was mailed at the beginning of the month.
    This is the time to prepare the garden and the orchard.  Last year, we were blessed with abundant produce.  After the critters took their share, we were left with 3,000 lbs. of organic vegetables from the garden.  Especially relished were the over 1,000 lbs. of tomatoes, most eaten fresh from July 10 to Dec.6!  The woodchucks approved too.  The hot/dry summer necessitated frequent watering but made the heat-loving vegetables very happy.  Our orchard got off to a chilling start when on the night of May 13, while most of the trees were in bloom, the temperature bottomed out at 25 degrees.  The apple trees shrugged it off, yielding our second largest crop at 12,000 lbs.  Our apples received rave reviews from customers who bought nearly a ton, all that we had sorted for sale.  425 gallons of cider were pressed with some of that sold also.  2005  was the last year we could sell fresh cider under New York State law.  Br. Thomas, our novice, was a great help with both the garden and the orchard, enjoying working outdoors and enjoying nature's wonders from a new perspective. 
    On the feast of the Annunciation, we received Br. Paul Henry a native of this area, as postulant.  In the afternoon, a memorial service for our neighbor, John Connelly, filled our chapel to remember his achievements and his many years as a teacher at Corning Community College. 
Miriam by Rev.Gordon Brewster    On Sunday, March 27th, we were invited for a surprise at the guest house by the Friends of the monastery, especially the Emmaus Group.  Fr. Martin received a sculpture by the Rev. Gordon Brewster, entitled 'Miriam' representing the spirit of joy.  In the evening, the community made its annual visit to Grace Episcopal Church to sing Vespers, to share a meal and end the day with Compline.

Fourth Annual Damasus Winzen Memorial Lecture. Sunday 7 May 2006. 4 PM.   by Fr Martin Shannon of the Community of Jesus, Orleans, Massachusetts.
Fr. Shannon recently presented a brilliant Dissertation: Damasus Winzen: A Voice for Liturgical Reform in the United States, to the Faculty of the School of Theology and Religious Studies of the Catholic University of America in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy.                                                 
The lecture will be followed by Vespers, refreshments and Compline.  We invite you to what will be a lively late afternoon and evening.
